Most cartoonists do their work every day with a belief that the pen is mightier than the sword, and that every day is the day when the world stops and takes notice of our view! Yet despite all our pen wielding and vitriol, the reality is that the world rarely complies…
For Jose Varela, cartoonist for El Nuevo Herald – the Spanish sister paper to the Miami Herald – the pen approach to making a difference, became too slow. If people were going to take notice, he would have go for the sword.
Or a gun more precisely.
Looking at his recent work does make you wonder whether perhaps someone should have read the signs..?
